Abstract

The aim of the proposed project is the construction of a 3-4 genome equivalent bovine YAC library with a mean insert size of 400 kb, which will provide a greater than 95% chance of isolating any given single-copy sequence. The library will be constructed using standard methods under the supervision of a laboratory with previous experience in the field. The intention of building this library is to provide a UK resource to facilitate projects such as: construction of high-density linkage maps from defined genomic regions; building of contigs and identification of additional markers in the vicinity of trait genes; improvement of the comparative gene map; the isolation of genes encoding QTL. The library will also assist UK participation in proposed international projects.
