Abstract

The aim of this project is to map large numbers of chicken genes to facilitate the identification of trait-gene comparison of genome maps. To achieve this we will use an efficient magnetic-bead-DNA-capture procedure to isolate cDNA copies of pre-sliced RNA transcripts containing microsatellite sequences. RNAs will be isolated from tissues with a wide representation of mRNA sequences. From the sequence of cDNAs we will (i) design primer-pairs for PCR assays to detect and map microsatellites onto the chicken genome, and (ii) seek evidence for possible function using the cDNA sequences to probe a range of databases. Linkage results will be summarised in the chicken genome database and used to seek homologies with other species (Comparative Genome Mapping).
