Abstract

The proposed programme has the following objectives: (1) to define the role of the xylan-binding domain in the catalytic function of xylanases (months 0-24). (2) To determine whether the catalytic activity of xylan-degrading enzymes can be enhanced by the addition of a xylan-binding domain (months 25-36). (3) To provide data underpinning the construction of novel enzymes with potential uses in the paper and animal feed industries (months 0-36).
