Abstract

CLS8 has been genetically defined as a gene acting upstream of calcium in low temperature signalling, and high resolution mapping has shown it lies in a region of the Arabidopsis genome that contains 21 protein- and 3 tRNA-encoding genes. The proposed research will identify the CLS8 gene in order to enable its manipulation for fundamental and applied research purposes. The gene identity will be confirmed by both positive (complementation) and negative (reverse genetic) evidence. CLS8 will be overexpressed, and the effect of this on cold-responsive calcium flux will be observed.
