Abstract

Six UDP-glucosyltransferases (UGTs) of Arabidopsis have been identified that recognise auxins and abscisic acid (ABA). Surprisingly, five of the UGTs glucosylate both hormones and one, 71B6, recognises only ABA, preferring the naturally occurring (+)-ABA. To understand the relevance of these data, we need to define where and when each UGT is expressed and the phenotypic consequences of changing that expression. We have knock-outs already for 4 of the 6 genes, including 71B6; an RNAi strategy for the silencing individual or clusters of UGTs has also been optimised. Through target profiling we will link UGT expressions to metabolite profiles of each hormone and start to determine the influence of glycosylation on these profiles and on the plants hormone metabolism.
