Abstract

The Rx CC-NBS-LRR protein confers resistance to potato virus X, with the viral coat protein (CP) acting as elicitor. We have previously defined two protein-protein interactions that take place between domains of Rx. These interactions are disrupted upon exposure to CP and appear to be required for Rx activity. We intend to follow up this work in order to characterise the mechanism by which plant CC-NBS-LRR proteins confer resistance. The specific aims are to understand the precise nature of the interactions, their elicitor mediated disruption and how these events act as a molecular switch to transmit information on the presence of elicitor to signalling components. We will also attempt to identify these signalling components.
