Abstract
Our previous work has shown that Sphingosine - 1 - phosphate (S1P) and phospholipase C (PLC) are components of guard cell Ca2+ based ABA signalling pathways. We now wish to investigate the relative contribution of these two Ca2+ - mobilising systems to guard cell signalling and address the following questions: 1) Are S1P and PLC components in the pathways by which ABA regulates guard cell gene expression? 2) What are the relative contributions of S1P and PLC to the generation of ABA induced Ca2+ oscillations and reductions in stomatal aperture? 3) Are S1P and PLC involved in the ABA - mediated control of guard cell cytoskeletal reorganisations? 4) What other guard cell Ca2+ based signalling pathways use PLC and/or S1P? (Joint with grant 18579).
