Abstract

We have obtained some evidence for PCD in the SI response. The main goal of this proposed project is to complete studies of early key PCD features which may unequivocally identify a PCD signalling cascade involvement in the irreversible inhibition of pollen tube growth in the SI response. We propose to concentrate on the putative caspase-like activity that we have identified, and focus on ascertaining unequivocally whether PCD is involved in the SI response, rather than just being a consequence of it.
