Abstract
We have shown that the transcription factors Nrg1 and Tup1 coordinate the expression of morphogenetic genes with other virulence attributes in the major fungal pathogen, Candida albicans. Inactivation of Nrg1 or Tup1 attenuates virulence. In this project we will define the mode of action of Nrg1 and Tup1 in C. albicans, and establish how Nrg1:Tup1-mediated regulation is integrated with other morphogenetic signalling pathways in this pathogen. We will also define the gene targets of Nrg1:Tup1 by extending our transcript profiling to the (nearly) whole C. albicans gene set, and then establish the contributions of Nrg1:Tup1 gene targets to morphogenesis and virulence in this pathogen.
