Abstract
1. The complete genome of a widely-used strain of Rhizobium leguminosarum (chromosome and plasmids) will be sequenced at the Sanger Centre by shotgun methods plus standard gap-closure strategies. 2. The sequence in progress will be released weekly on a public website, and be of immediate use to workers in the R. leguminosarum community to aid their molecular genetic work on this species. 3. The completed genome sequence will be fully annotated and available on an enhanced set of web pages as well as through the public EMBL/Genbank/DDBJ databases, and published in the peer-reviewed literature. (Joint with grant 104/P16988).
