Abstract

Cell division plays key roles in plant growth and development, and cell cycle controls respond to extrinsic and intrinsic signals, including hormones. Cell cycle regulation is mediated by cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) complexes, whose abundance, composition, and post-translational state alters through the cell cycle. Here we propose the first global analysis of CDK complexes in any plant by 2D-electrophoresis and mass spectrometry, making use of unique cell synchrony systems developed for Arabidopsis cells by the applicant. The effects on CDK complexes of exogenous application of hormones or of altered hormone balance in transgenic or mutant plants will link our knowledge of the effects of hormones and cell division, revealing hormone targets in cell cycle control and integrating the biochemistry of CDKs with whole plant responses.
