Abstract

The project will study the regulation of storage lipid synthesis in oilseed rape using the technique of control analysis (CA). An overall picture of regulation will be generated by the use of single-manipulation (fatty acid addition) and double-manipulation (inhibitors, mutants) in top-down CA. The contributions of fatty acid synthase components and diacylglycerol acyltransferase will be quantified by bottom-up CA. The work will capitalise on the expertise and facilities at the two centres. It will provide essential information for understanding the regulation of lipid metabolism and will be of direct use for the efficient production of new plant oils.
