Abstract
The plant hormone auxin provides an important intercellular signal during plant development. Auxins are transported using specialised influx and efflux carrier proteins. We report the immuno-localisation of the putative auxin influx carrier AUX1 in Arabidopsis root apical tissues. The proposal builds on this important development to (A) probe the functional importance of AUX1 expression in phloem and columella/lateral root cap tissues for long distance and gravitropic related IAA transport respectively; (B) to unravel the mechanisms regulating AUX1 sub-cellular targeting and asymmetric distribution in columella and phloem tissues; and (C) to dissect the physiological and genetic mechanisms regulating AUX1 abundance.
