Abstract

The family of genes carrying a conserved NAC domain have been implicated in the control of various aspects of plant growth and development. Three genes that encode such proteins have been shown to show senescence-enhanced expression in Arabidopsis. This project aims to elucidate the role(s) of these proteins in plant senescence. Functional analysis will include identification of insertion mutants and antisense transformants, analysis of gene expression patterns in these mutants and physiological and biochemical analysis of the effects of the mutation. Double mutants will be generated to investigate the effects of removal of more than one pathway. Further dissection of regulatory pathways will include the isolation and identification of proteins that interact with a selected NAC protein.
