Abstract
Gibberellin promotes plant growth by opposing the activity of GAI, a growth-repressing nuclear transcription factor. To find out how this works this project will: determine the roles of GAI-like proteins other than GAI in growth regulation; identify amino-acid residues that are key to the growth-repressing function of GAI; determine if GAI-mediated plant stem growth repression is governed by a sub-group of the cells that comprise the stem. These advances will fundamentally enhance our understanding of how plants grow.
