Abstract
We have shown the enhanced oxidative burst, as monitored by induction of a redox- responsive reporter gene (AoPR1-GUS), to be a key process in Systemic Acquired Resistance (SAR) and essential for a successful HR, but its importance in wounding signalling is unknown. In a pilot experiment an efficient screen for Arabidopsis plants unable to induce AoPR1-GUS has been developed and 6 putative mutants identified. We now wish to undertake a full scale experiment to isolate and characterise mutants defective redox- regulated AoPR1-GUS induction. These data will address the relationship between local AOS production and the generation of subsequent signals essential for a successful HR, establishment of SAR and long distance wound signalling.
