Abstract

The plasma membrane of appressoria of C. lindemuthianum is differentiated into two distinct domains. A monoclonal antibody which specifically labels appressoria identifies a glycoprotein present in the dome of the appressorium, but which is absent from the basal region. We aim 1) to obtain sequence for this protein and study its carbohydrate side chains; 2) study the role of the protein in appressorial formation and pathogenesis; 3) investigate links between the protein and the cytoskeleton and/or cell wall; 4) study the cellular organisation of appressoria in relation to their polarised structure.
