Abstract
The molecular basis for the mechanism which controls the development, propagation and limitation of the necrotic lesions which develop during the plant hypersensitive response is poorly understood particularly at the genetic level but is of crucial importance for a successful defence against invading pathogens. The control of lesion development during the HR is therefore of great interest in terms of manipulating plant disease resistance. This proposal seeks to address this specific problem by taking a novel approach to identify genes expressed during lesion limitation and by identifying biochemical differences between propagative and non-propagative lesion development in novel Arabidopsis mutants.
