Abstract
The twin objectives are to continue the development of a high resolution CT system capable of non-invasive discrimination of root systems growing in soil, and to exploit this technique in experimental studies. Fan and cone beam imaging will be refined at Surrey to allow fast scanning of both slices and root systems; Rayleigh diffraction and dual energy systems will be compared to allow differentiation of bulk density and water content changes. At Reading an engineered fan beam scanner will be used to measure water flux to roots and reconstruct 3- D root systems. (Joint with grant P08442).
