Abstract

A region on chromosome 3 of Arabidopsis accession Nd-1 has been shown to contain two loci, RPP1 and RPP13, specifying resistance to isolates of Peronospora parasitica (downy mildew). Each of these loci may contain more than one resistance gene. The primary structure of these loci will be determined. The genes present will be transformed into susceptible plant accessions and their function in disease resistance determined. Mutational and protein domain-swapping experiments will be used to determine the role of different functional domains within the genes.
