Abstract
(a) Characterise the role of the two CheY response regulator homologues in signalling and signal termination in Rhodobacter sphaeroides by using response kinetics and protein-protein interaction studies. (b) Characterise the second chemosensory pathway, and identify its relationship to the first chemosensory pathway and to metabolic activity, by cloning and characterising the genes of this newly identified pathway and the phenotypes of in-frame mutants. (c) Identify whether having two chemosensory pathways is a common feature of the environmentally important alpha-subgroup of proteo-bacteria by hybridisation, by PCR cloning and by mutagenesis studies on a range of species from this subgroup.
