Abstract

The aim is to identify genes in Arabidopsis that are involved in signalling pathways that control plant responses to pathogens and initiate leaf senescence. A metallothionein promoter: GUS fusion which is induced during senescence and in response to infection by some pathogen isolates will be used to identify mutants that show an altered response to pathogens. Pathogen interactions and leaf senescence will be analysed in the mutants and some genes will be selected for mapping and cloning.
