Abstract
The aims of the project are to establish the mechanism by which proteins are transported across the chloroplast thylakoid membrane by a delta pH-dependent translocase. We will examine, (a) the role of a critical twin- arginine motif in the targeting signal for the system, (b) the mechanism by which the delta pH drives translocation, and (c) the structure of the translocase itself.
