Abstract

1. The production of novel polyketide metabolites by systematic genetic engineering of the genes for type 1 polyketide synthases. 2. Investigation of the role of newly-discovered activator genes in increasing levels both of polyketide synthases and of antibiotic production. 3. Study of the role of post-translational modification in controlling the activity of type 1 polyketide synthases.
