Abstract
1) To isolate and characterise new mutants of Streptomyces coelicolor that are sensitive to clinical mutagens such as MNNG and 4NQO. These mutants will be phenotypically characterised and used to clone the genes identified . 2) To identify damage-inducible genes, mutate them and characterise the mutant phenotypes. 3) Using PCR techniques, to identify, clone and characterise genes involved in the repair of alkylation damage.
