Abstract

The aim of this project is to work towards an understanding of gene-for-gene specificity using the biotrophic pathogen of Arabidopsis thaliana, Peronospora parasitica. The isolate specific recognition gene RPP4 will be cloned from A. thaliana accession Col-5. The sequence of this gene may yield insights into the mechanisms of pathogen recognition and the plant response. The cloned recognition gene will then be used to study the complexity of the RPP4 locus and to identify homologues in related species,e.g. Brassica.
