Abstract
The aims of the project are to carry out a functional analysis of the stigmatic S-protein to elucidate which regions determine S-allelic specificity. This will be achieved by (i) comparing nucleotide sequences of different S-alleles in order to identify conserved and hypervariable regions within them. (ii) construction in vitro of mutant derivatives of S1, which will be analysed for S-specific activity.
