Abstract

The proposal addresses two related aspects of sex determination and development in male and female flowers of the dioecious plant species Rumex acetosa. Firstly, does a tasselseed2-like gene control the abortion of the developing stamens in the female primordia? Secondly, what are the genes which are transcribed on the X chromosome during flower determination in males and females? The latter question will be addressed by the novel technique of preparative in situ hybridisation and analysis of the resultant cDNA clones.
