Abstract
Angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels) is a fundamental feature of embryonic development, involving the migration, self-aggregation and aggregate branching of endothelial cells. Using a combination of mathematical modelling (nonlinear pdes, deterministic cellular automata, numerical analysis) and experimental study (quantitative estimates of parameters, image analysis, cell migration assays) we intend to investigate the effect of angiogenic cytokines and matrix macromolecules on endothelial cell migration.
