Abstract
Cell cycle commitment involves integrating signals of growth, division and differentiation, and E2F transcription factors play pivotal roles. We have cloned the family of 3 Arabidopsis E2F genes. We propose to gain an integrated understanding of their roles in plant development: 1) using a unique synchronisation system to study expression of E2Fs during the cell cycle; 2) analysing their sub-cellular localisation and developmental expression; 3) analysing phenotypes caused by inducible up and down regulation of E2Fs; and 4) identifying downstream gene targets of E2Fs, thus putting plants at the forefront of research on E2F transcription factors.
