Abstract

Funds for the purchase of a high-resolution HPLC system for the Biochemistry and Physiology Department of IACR-Rothamsted are requested. A number of projects in the Department identify and manipulate molecular and cellular processes which will lead to new crop varieties with improved agronomic traits. Once targets have been identified and relevant genes isolated plant transformation is used to manipulate metabolism. This work requires the precise separation, detection and quantification of substrates, metabolites or inhibitors and will be enhanced by the availability of a sensitive and automated HPLC system. The requested HPLC also includes facilities for the computerised analysis of chromatograms which will greatly aid analysis of results in all of these projects.
