Abstract

The EC has funded a 2 year programme, with a further 2 years continuation subject to satisfactory progress, which will permit completion of the sequence of the 13.5 Mb bottom arm of chromosome 4. The JIC aims to continue to be a leader in this project by making a major contribution to managing the project, by organising the BAC clones to be sequenced, and by making a significant contribution to sequencing. To accomplish this, we request funds for two pieces of equipment to extend our contribution to the Arabidopsis genome project. A gridding robot will permit JIC to assemble 4 Mb of contigs and a sequencing machine will permit us to sequence over 300kb a year. The equipment will also be used in other genome projects at the JIC relevant to BBSRC's mission.
