Abstract

Use of the automated DNA sequencing instrument in the applicants' department has increased to fully occupy its capacity. Research programmes either just starting, or for which funding has been obtained, will increase sequencing demand on this instrument by at least 50%; in addition, a DNA sequencing instrument is needed to provide automated genotyping facilities. Funding is requested for a second DNA sequencer; an Applied Biosystems model 377 sequencer will have 2-3 times the capacity of the present instrument. The two machines together will form the core of an integrated DNA analysis facility available to users both inside and outside the University, which will be vital to maintain and expand our projects with industry.
