Abstract

It is proposed to upgrade the mass spectrometry facilities at IACR-Long Ashton with equipment capable of GC-MS-MS and LC-MS-MS at high sensitivity. The equipment is required for determining the distribution of gibberellins and gibberellin conjugates in transgenic plants with altered expression of gibberellin-biosynthesis genes. It will also be used in projects on jasmonic acid production and phytoalexins and to analyse herbicides in relation to work on integrated farming systems. The LC-MS facility will include an electrospray interface for protein analysis to be used in projects on the structure of GA- biosynthetic enzymes, G-protein signalling in plants, seed protein structure and single-chain antibodies.
