Abstract

Application to upgrade equipment required to study expression in bacteria and mammalian cell lines. Luminescent and fluorescent reporter gene technology coupled with low-light imaging microscopy will be used to identify genes expressed by both bacteria and host cells during the pathogenesis process. In addition to the host/pathogen interaction studies, similar approaches will be used to measure the expression of genes in transformed mammalian cell lines and in primary human airway epithelial cells.
