Abstract

This proposal is for an ABI 377 DNA Sequencer, an ABI 173 HPLC microblotter & for Perkin Elmer series 200 HPLC pump & autosampler. The equipment is requested on behalf of the DNA & Protein Sequencing & Synthesis Core Facility of the Krebs Institute. The facility underpins the majority of the research programmes that are currently active within the Institute; research of international standing that will be supported by the equipment include R.K.Poole (microbial respiration and metal-microbe interaction), D. W. Rice (structural & functional studies on proteins), C. N. Hunter (genetic modification of light harvesting complexes), G. Turner (antibiotic synthesis & control of fungal growth & morphology), D. P. Hornby (detection of breast cancer), P. Monk (identification of ligand-binding site on the tetraspanins), A. Moir (structure & germination of bacterial endospores), H. Moore (molecular characterisation of fertilisation), J. Gray (signal transduction in plants) & S. Foster (novel drug targets for S. aureus).
