Abstract

This application seeks funding to provide state-of-the-art stopped flow facility to support a broad range of fundamental and interdisciplinary science at the interface of chemistry with biology, particularly a new core programme of science involving studies on metalloproteins. The science involves research in areas identified as of strategic importance to one or more of the Research Councils (physical organic chemistry; enzyme mechanisms; biotransformations). The principal scientific programme involves the exploitation of rapid reaction kinetics in the following areas: i) structure/function analysis of ascorbate peroxidase and leghemoglobin; ii) studies on the mechanism of cytochrome P450 BM3 and its exploitation in biotransformations.
