Abstract

We are requesting computer hardware, a Silicon Graphics Origin 2000 with 4 x R12000 processors, as our computer hardware is in urgent need of upgrading. This hardware will be used to support software development in (i) the analysis of domain motions in proteins using thermal diffuse scattering data, (ii) in the use of these data in low resolution protein structure refinement, (iii) to model protein stability related to unfolding and disease states, (iv) to model the effects of chemical modification on the properties of oligonucleotides and (v) to analyse simulation data using a database approach. These projects involve several collaborations within the Department of Crystallography and between the Departments of Crystallography and Computer Science as well as with outside groups. The projects are all relevant to the understanding of protein and DNA function and the hardware will enhance that available for research and research training within the new BBSRC Structural Biology Centre.
