Abstract

We propose to support the following project areas: 1) the novel self-assembled detectors based on both peptide/protein targets and oligonucleotides/nucleic acids; 2) some newly discovered immunoglobulin-binding peptides; 3) redox- and receptor-activated peptides as macromolecular assemblies for drug delivery and cell penetration; 4) pH-responsive peptides for detection of micro-organisms and vertoxin; 5) study of P-glycoprotein and Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor (AhR); 6) metabolically stable and immunosilent variants of the DNA repair protein, O6-alkyguanine DNA-transferase for anticancer therapies; 7) the oxidative damage repair protein FPG; 8) development of inhibitors of helix-loop-helix transcription factors, primarily the Hif system of hypoxia and the Id family.
