Abstract

This equipment grant application is a request for funds to set up a multifunctional blot and gel imaging system that will provide phosphorimaging, fluorescence and quantitative densitometry facilities in a single package. Three separate projects are described in detail which will make use of these facilities. Each of these will greatly benefit from the increased speed and sensitivity, large dynamic range and accurate quantitative nature of the imaging capabilities of the system. Plans to take advantage of the School of Biological Sciences computer network are described, in which the software for analysis of the various types of scan and images produced by the system will be placed of the network. This will permit access to data from several personal computers located throughout the research labs in the school such that use of the scanning facility can be maximised.
