Abstract

The instrument is needed to replace a 14 year old ABI 477A pulsed liquid sequencer that has supported the research projects of many groups in the Departments of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Medicine. The 477A is now broken and beyond repair and funding for a replacement is being requested. The research projects that depend upon the availability of such an instrument cover a range of activities such as N-terminal sequencing for gene isolation studies, checking correct processing of recombinant proteins, identification of proteins in 2-D gels used in proteomic studies, the identification of residues in proteins reactive to chemical reagents or phosphorylation events, and the structure of biosynthetic peptides from combinatorial peptide libraries.
