Abstract
The Cell and Molecular Biology Group (CMBG) at Bangor has recently undergone a major restructuring and development programme. Central to this has been the appointment of a number of new research prioritised group leaders. The objective of these appointments is to ensure the School is positioned centrally in the international research community and to sustain the School's reputation for excellence in multidiscipline biological sciences. This project aims to provide the CMBG with a flow cytometer/cell sorting system. The equipment will be partly funded by DAKO Ltd and will ensure new appointments can fulfil their outstanding research potential while protecting excellence in current research groups. The School has a strategic aim to generate science closely integrated with the commercial sector, as laid out in the recent Technology Foresight Exercise. The project will generate a new commercial link with CMBG and will provide the infrastructure to develop future ties with the industrial sector. The School's diverse usage will result in the genesis of exciting new applications for the DAKO Ltd systems that will be of mutual benefit to both academic and commercial partners. The project will provide a unique platform for forging long term links between CMBG and local NHS units. It will also stimulate closer interdepartmental research activities focused around a central technology theme.
