Abstract

COGEME will establish national state-of-the-art facilities for the analysis of the transcriptome and proteome of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. These will consist of a Transcriptome Research Facility (TRF), two Proteome Research Facilities (PRF1 and PRF2) and a Bioinformatics Centre. In addition to their primary role in serving the UK yeast research community, these facilities will provide incubators in which to establish genome analysis for a number of important satellite organisms among the yeast and fungi. These will include both plant and human pathogens (Mycosphaerella graminicola, Erysiphe graminis, Candida albicans, and Aspergillus fumigatus) as well as model species, such as A. nidulans and Neurospora crassa. A series of demonstration projects will be used to validate the facilities provided for the yeast community. Further development projects will employ these facilities to initiate UK-based genome analysis in satellite organisms.
