Abstract

GARNet, the Genomic Arabidopsis Resources Network aims to create resources and services of functional genomics. The technologies of functional genomics are developing rapidly, and there is a large need for wide availability of these technologies. The IGF initiative ensures functional genomics technologies will become available to a wide audience. Transcriptome analysis, bioinformatics, metabolite profiling, proteome analysis and forward and reverse genetics are the spearpoints of the Arabidopsis GARNet project. The wide range of available genomic resources will allow for fast progress of a wide range of research projects. The GARNet service providers undertake the development and maintenance of the different resources and facilities. The aim is to provide the UK Arabidopsis community with access to high quality services, but international access to the recourses is also possible. The Garnet Steering Committee will monitor the progress of the project and is responsible for prioritising access to the resources. This part of the GARNet network will involve the design of primers to amplify predicted genes not present in the Arabidopsis EST set. These will be used to amplify confirmed products to be provided to the Arabidopsis micro-array facility.
