Abstract

We shall investigate the role that the positional specification of neural stem cells plays in directing brain repair. Preliminary data indicate that immortalised neural stem cell lines carry a positional specification, as determined by the combination of homeobox transcription factors that they express. Moreover, different lines carry a different specification. We will use in vivo and in vitro systems to ask what neurogenic genes are activated by these different cell lines during neurogenesis, what neuronal types are generated, and the role that tissue environment plays in these outcomes.
