Abstract
The aim is to understand the mechanisms by which Arabidopsis thaliana changes the distribution of stomata on its leaves in response to elevated CO2 levels. Natural populations and mutants will be screened for changes in stomatal density, stomatal distribution and guard cell size, and selected plants will be subjected to growth analysis to investigate altered water use efficiency, and genetic analysis to identify genes controlling stomatal characteristics.
