Abstract

The UK CropNet project facilitates the management, analysis and dissemination of information obtained from the major crop plant genome projects within the UK. This proposal will build on the success of the existing network by employing state-of-the-art bioinformatics technology. Data retrieval will be simple and intuitive, complex querying will not require in-depth computing knowledge and graphical representation will be highly informative. Major priorities will be to improve methods of data display and data retrieval from disparate sources via software component infrastructure (SCI) methodology as well as to populate the databases with key information. Core component software development will be shared by strengthening our working relationships with the Roslin Institute's animal network and with the USDA plant genome bioinformatics projects.
