Abstract

1. To develop a NEW database: MENDEL-ESTS. MENDEL-ESTS will contain all the plant EST and STS sequences related to the gene families in the MENDEL database by the MENDEL GENE FAMILY NUMBER. 2. To expand the development of the UK CropNet `data collector' allowing data in MENDEL, MENDEL-ESTS, SwissProt and other EMBL databases to automatically display with the mapping data in the single species databases. This will permit the relationships between the physical maps of different species to be displayed using a common nomenclature. 3. To develop software that will, using the Gene Family Number information, predict the location of sequenced probes knowing the spacial positions of the flanking markers and their relationship to gene families in other species.
