Abstract

Mutations in SCN1 have strong genetic interactions with mutations in most other genes involved in root hair morphogenesis. SCN1 encodes a RopGDI, a negative regulator of Rop small GTPases. Phenotypic evidence suggests that Rop2 is a target of SCN1 regulation. We will use biochemical, molecular, cellular and genetic approaches to characterise the interactions of SCN1/RopGDI1 and Rop2 with each other and with other root hair genes during morphogenesis. The results should reveal the biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology underlying an important part of the genetic network controlling root hair morphogenesis.
