Abstract

The Arabidopsis NAC-domain genes CUC1 and CUC2 are involved in the establishment of organ boundaries. We have identified a mutant, mci1, in which the boundaries of organ identity do not coincide with the boundaries of the floral organs. This results in flowers in which cell types spill over into a neighbouring whorl. Mci1 was identified by selection for a T- DNA insertion into a gene encoding a TCP-protein, which shows an evolutionarily conserved interaction with the CUCs and their Antirrhinum orthologue CUP. The mci1 mutant, a related mci2 mutant, and their corresponding genes will allow us to investigate the mechanism which co-ordinates the partitioning of the meristem into primordia and the assignment of identity to those primordia.
